Birchbox – September 2019

Hey there, as you can obviously tell I’m a bit late with this review. The sole reason for this is that I haven’t been feeling that well lately and was struggling to get my health back to normal whilst at the same time doing all my work and preparation for uni classes. I also feel like my October review will be late as well since I have yet to receive that box and would like to properly test out each and every product I receive.

But here it is! The September Birchbox review.

First of all, I love the girl power in this box. “You go girl” – This kind of motivation was just what I needed for starting my final year in university.

The first product I received in this box is the Bioderma – Purifying cleansing foaming gel. I have previously used foaming cleansers but it had been a while so I was very excited to try a new one out.

Impressions: Yes, the actual colour of this product is BLUE, it’s not just the tube! A first thing I noticed when testing this for the first time is that it is actually not as foamy as other foaming cleansers I’ve previously tried out. For me, that is not really a bad thing since it makes sure I don’t accidentaly breathe in the foam like I have with other products, haha!

It has a very nice and gentle scent to it, but what I like most is that it is targeted towards clearing imperfections. Especially since I have been ill and have been struggling with hormones, this was exactly what my skin needed.

I do not know if using this cleanser on its own would have helped me get rid of all imperfections, but I’m sure it contributed a good bit together with other skincare products created especially for this skin issue.

The second product for this review is the Garancia – L’Elixir du Marabout. This product is a serum designed towards getting rid of imperfections, again, just what I needed.

Impressions: The instructions indicate to apply this serum in the morning and evening all over the face, but you have to go over the imperfections for 10 seconds each, so that is exactly how I used the serum.

One thing I did not like as much about the serum was that it felt a little bit ‘sticky’ at times. However, that doesn’t mean I do not like it at all. It did help me a lot in getting rid of those annoying little spots, so it did do its job just right!

Another great benefit of this serum is that it helps to remove imperfections, but without drying out your skin like most of these products tend to do.

The third product is the MAC – Retro Matte Lipstick in the shade ‘Ruby Woo’. If you follow me on instagram you will have seen a picture of me wearing this beautiful lipstick already, but what are my thoughts about it?

Impressions: Lipsticks are one of those makeup products I tend to buy mostly at MAC. So no surprise, I was excited to receive a MAC lipstick in my Birchbox.

What I love about this lipstick is how well it stays on. I had lunch, I drank an afternoon latte, I spent the whole day wearing this lipstick and it barely moved at all. The only spot I had to re-apply it to at the very end of the day was right at the inner part of my bottom lip but that is a bit my own fault since I tend to suck in my bottom lip every now and then, haha!

One thing that was a bit of a downer for me is that the application didn’t feel as smooth as other MAC lipsticks I have tried. I’m unsure if it was just for my one or if it is the case for all lipsticks from this range. It should have a ‘creamy’ texture according to the information but that was not how I experienced it. However, it did not dry out my lips so apart from application, it does have some nurture in it too.

The fourth product I received was the Respire – Natural Deodorant in the scent ‘Green Tea’.

Impressions: I do not know about you all but normally I use a spray deodorant. However, I took this little roller with me in my handbag and have been using it throughout my long days at uni.

The scent is very pleasing and made me feel so refreshed after applying it in the afternoon. I’m unsure if I’ll switch to a roller deodorant after this one runs out but for the moment I am enjoying it very much.

I’m usually a bit hesitant towards ‘natural deodorant’ since something in my head is telling me that it won’t work as well as a ‘normal’ deodorant. I must say, this product has completely changed my mind about that!

The fifth and final product for this review is the Kérastase – Length Strengthening Masque.

Impressions: If you know me at all you’ll know that I’m not the biggest enthusiast for hair care products. However, sometimes even I notice my hair could use a little treat and why not try something new out then?

And so I did. What I really enjoyed about using this product is that it only has to stay on your hair for 5 minutes before rinsing it all out. Mostly I am not bothered with hair masks because they take so long and I just hate waiting in the shower until I can rinse it out. I do know the benefits of hair masks are amazing, but I guess I’m just too impatient.

So what I did with this one is just wash my hair first, then apply the mask, then wash my body and by the time I was done the mask was ready to be taken out.

My hair felt extremely soft after using this and it got detangled with ease. I’m also a big fan of the scent, it reminded me of some old candy type I haven’t had in ages. Loved the nostalgia.

Well, that was all for this review. I hope you liked it and if you wish to see more of this in the future, make sure to follow my blog!
